How the price is worked out
A ducted heat pump has an installed price for each home size. A mini-split has a price for the outdoor unit plus a price for each indoor unit. In the sample, three indoor units are $2,200 for the outdoor unit and 3 × $2,200 for the indoor units on Standard ($8,800), or $3,000 and 3 × $3,000 on Premium ($12,000). A cold-climate model adds $400 per indoor unit to Standard ($1,200); Premium models are already rated for cold climates, so it shows as “Included”. Totals are rounded to the nearest $50. That gives $10,000 and $12,000 before tax.
More than six indoor units adds a second outdoor unit as its own line. Ducted systems add electric backup heat ($700) or a connection to the gas furnace ($500) when chosen, and removing the old system is $400. If the customer doesn't know their home size or wants help deciding on a cold-climate model, the estimate shows a range. If the panel has no room for a new 240 V circuit, the heat pump is still priced and the panel work is noted as priced after a visit.
What you can change
- Ducted prices by home size, and outdoor and per-unit mini-split prices, for each package.
- The cold-climate upgrade, backup heat and removal prices.
- Package names, what each includes, and your warranty wording.
- Your minimum job price and rounding.
What still needs your visit
The heat-loss calculation, where each unit goes, the line set routes and the electrical panel. The estimate shows its assumptions and says the price is preliminary.
