How the price is worked out
The walls have a price by home size for each package: $5,200 (Standard paint) or $6,500 (Premium paint) for 1,500 to 2,500 sq ft in the sample. Trim, fascia and soffits add $1,800. Wood siding adds 15% of the walls for scraping, sanding and priming ($780 or $975), and a two-story home adds 15% of the walls and trim for ladders and lifts ($1,050 or $1,245). Totals are rounded to the nearest $50. That gives $8,850 and $10,500 before tax.
Stucco adds 10% and brick 20% for extra paint and primer. Some peeling adds 20% and lots of peeling 35%, a home built before 1978 adds 10% of the walls and trim for lead-safe work, and a big color change adds 15% for an extra coat. Front and garage doors ($450) and shutters ($400) are extras. If the customer isn't sure about the home size, the paint's condition or the age of the home, the estimate shows a range.
