How the price is worked out

Each door type has an installed price per door for each material. In the sample, a single door is $1,800 (Steel), $2,600 (Fiberglass) or $4,200 (Wood), with the frame, weatherstripping and hardware. A half-height window adds $350, a smart lock $350, and hauling away the old door $100. That gives $2,600, $3,400 and $5,000 before tax.

Full-length glass is $650 per door and a storm door $650, and every per-door price is multiplied by the number of doors. Steel sliding patio doors are ruled out, because they aren't made. Rot in the frame or the floor under the door is priced after a visit while the door is still priced; if the customer doesn't know, the estimate assumes a solid frame and says so.

What you can change

  • Installed prices per door by type, for each material.
  • Glass, smart lock, storm door and haul-away prices.
  • Package names, what each includes, and your warranty wording.
  • Your minimum job price and rounding.

What still needs your visit

Exact sizes, the condition of the frame and the wall around it. The estimate shows its assumptions and says the price is preliminary.
