Prices you supply

  • New panel installed Your installed price for each package
  • Permit and inspection A fixed extra when it applies
  • New service entrance cable and meter base A fixed extra when it applies
  • Whole-home surge protector A fixed extra when it applies; included in Premium
  • Minimum job priceNo estimate shows less (sample: $1,500)
  • Assessment rule: Knob-and-tube wiringHomes with knob-and-tube wiring need an electrician's assessment before a panel upgrade, because some circuits may need rewiring first.
  • Assessment rule: Moving the panelMoving the panel to a new spot is priced after a visit, because it depends on the walls and the new wire routes.
  • Assessment rule: Utility service and meterYour utility service and meter will likely need upgrading too. That part is priced after a visit, once we've checked your utility company's requirements.

How the price is worked out

Each new panel size has an installed price per package. In the sample, a 200 A panel replacing a 100 A panel is $3,200 (Standard) or $4,000 (Premium), and both add $300 for the permit and inspection. The whole-home surge protector adds $350 to Standard; Premium already includes it, so it shows as “Included”. That gives $3,850 and $4,300 before tax.

Upgrading from a 60 A panel or fuses adds a new service entrance cable and meter base ($800). For a 400 A panel or a 60 A starting point, the estimate shows the panel price and notes that utility service and meter work is priced after a visit; moving the panel works the same way. Homes with knob-and-tube wiring go to an assessment. If the customer doesn't know their current panel size, the estimate shows a range from a 100 A to a 60 A starting point.

What you can change

  • Installed prices for each panel size and package.
  • Permit, service entrance and surge protector prices.
  • Which situations are priced after a visit or go to an assessment.
  • Your minimum job price and rounding.

What still needs your visit

The load calculation, your utility's requirements and the condition of the existing wiring. The estimate shows its assumptions and says the price is preliminary.
