How the price is worked out

Each package has an installed price for each home size. In the sample, a home of 1,200 to 1,800 sq ft is $6,400 (Standard), $8,200 (High efficiency) or $11,000 (Premium). Every package adds $250 for the electrical disconnect and connection. Removing and recycling the old air conditioner adds $350 to Standard; High efficiency and Premium already include it, so they show it as “Included”. Totals are rounded to the nearest $50. That gives $7,000, $8,450 and $11,250 before tax.

New refrigerant lines ($900) and a smart thermostat ($300) are added when chosen, and both are part of Premium. If the customer doesn't know their home size, the estimate shows a range from a typical to a larger home. A home without ducts gets a plain explanation and a suggestion to ask for a mini-split estimate. A first central air with no shut-off box outside still shows the system price, with the new circuit priced after a visit.

What you can change

  • The home-size bands and each package's installed price.
  • Package names, efficiency ratings and warranty wording.
  • Line set, removal and thermostat prices, and which packages include them.
  • Your minimum job price and rounding.

What still needs your visit

Sizing the system for the house, the electrical circuit and the condition of the ducts. The estimate shows its assumptions and says the price is preliminary.
